Aircraft Engine MRO · Oracle EBS / cMRO

Six Years Inside a Live Engine - MRO Environment

An upstream operator running production assets in Peninsular Malaysia needed AP and AR invoices to reach LHDN without anyone in finance learning a new tool. Here’s how it happened.

The Client

A Live Engine Shop Floor Running on Heavily Customized cMRO

The company overhauls and repairs aircraft engines for airline and lessor customers across the region, operating out of the UAE. Their Oracle E-Business Suite environment - deeply customized for cMRO (complex Maintenance, Repair & Overhaul) - sits at the center of everything: engine task cards, repair orders, tool tracking, OSP (Outside Service Provider) movements, and the compliance reporting that keeps the shop floor auditable.

This isn't a back-office ERP. Every transaction traces back to a physical engine part moving through the shop, a subcontractor, or a customer's asset register. Get the data wrong and it isn't just an IT ticket - it's a financial misstatement or a compliance gap on a live MRO floor.

Six years ago, that environment needed to move data centers and upgrade from Oracle EBS R12.1.1 to R12.2.9 without breaking any of the customizations the business had come to depend on.

The Challenge

Four Things That Had to Be True at Once

An EBS upgrade is disruptive enough on a standard footprint. On a heavily customized cMRO environment tied to a physical shop floor, the margin for error was much smaller.

01

The upgrade couldn't touch compliance reporting

ARC, Task Card, EER, and NRC flows were all heavily customized for cMRO. Every one of them had to survive the R12.1.1 → R12.2.9 upgrade with zero disruption to the compliance reporting built on top of them.

02

Financial statements had to reflect physical reality

Self-owned tools and assetsunder-repair were being misclassified, distorting the numbers. The accounting logic had to match what was actually happening on the shop floor.

03

Ownership had to stay accurate as parts moved

Engine parts move constantly to subcontractors and back. Customer-owned vs. self-owned status had to stay correct through every one of those movements, not just at the start and end.

04

Shop floor discipline had to be enforced in the system

Task cards were being duplicated and reprinted informally, creating repeated work and confusion on the floor. That needed to be locked down at the system level, not left to manual process.
What We Did

Modernize, Stabilize, Transform - In That Order

1 - Modernization

Data center migration paired with the Oracle EBS upgrade from R12.1.1 to R12.2.9. Rather than a lift-and-shift, we re-engineered the ARC, Task Card, EER, and NRC customizations so they carried forward cleanly, with compliance reporting intact from day one on the new version.

2 - Stabilization

With the platform current, we moved into Managed Services: closing the tool-and-repair accounting gap so self-owned tools and assets-under-repair stopped distorting the financials, and building OSP ownership tracking that stayed accurate as parts moved to subcontractors and back. Task card printing was locked down to planners only, eliminating duplicate shop-floor cards and the repeated work they caused.

3 - Transformation

With incidents down and the environment stable, the focus shifted to automation, process redesign, and DR readiness – turning the platform from something that just runs into something that keeps generating business value.

When the client’s infrastructure contract went out to a competitive RFP and moved to a new vendor, they kept us on as their Oracle Applications & cMRO partner. That’s the clearest signal of trust a technical partnership can get  the infrastructure changed hands, but the application and domain expertise stayed.
